Home security hasn’t changed much in the last couple decades. Door locks, peep holes, and alarms cover much of the available product spectrum in consumer grade home security. While technology exists to actively record video via Internet enabled cameras, implementations of these systems are typically expensive or tricky to operate.
Logitech, the computer peripheral company most recently in the news for its upcoming Google TV device, has developed the Logitech Alert home monitoring system which offers consumers easy access to near-professional grade home monitoring capabilities in an easy to install package.
The Logitech Alert, which comes in both indoor and outdoor versions ($300 and $350 respectively), consists of a high definition camera and control software for a PC. The cameras send and receive data via the HomePlug power line networking standard, making connectivity to an existing home network simple and secure. The software allows expansion of the monitoring system with additional cameras, as well as several flexible mobile viewing options for smartphones or frequent travelers.
