GenosTV Cyclops Is The Scariest Remote Ever

GenosTV Cyclops Remote Control

Given the wide array of devices incorporated into the modern home theater, the need for a universal remote is greater than ever.  And just as the number of remote controlled devices has grown, so has the breadth of functionality any particular device’s remote may employ.  From textual searches to gesture based input, the way we interface with the devices that entertain us has changed from the days of requiring nothing more than a simple number pad and volume control.

We’ve already seen the introduction of QWERTY keyboards and RF remotes into the arsenal of home theater universal remote control equipment.   The GlideTV Navigator added a touch-pad pointing device which allows mouse-like interactions on home theater PC’s.

Now a company called GenosTV is introducing its Cyclops controller.   The Cyclops, which was originally intended to control the GenosTV set-top box, is an ergonomic wireless remote that employs two-handed operation.  It includes a full QWERTY keyboard, standard device controls, and D-pad.   The unique UFO-esque shape of the Cyclops and its two-handed operation don’t seem like inviting features in a market quickly moving towards “smartphone” applications for device control.  What do you think?
