Google Announces Winner of Model Your Town Competition

Google LogoA few months ago we reported that Google was holding a competition in which participants could create 3D models of towns from around the world.  The competition was meant to spur the development of 3D cityscapes within Google Earth while instilling a sense of regional pride into the participants from each geographical area. Today, Google announced the winner of this competition.  The Barranco District of Lima Peru took the top prize, having been modeled by a local attorney to “generate pride among his fellow citizens”.  For his efforts, a local school district in Lima Peru will get $10,000.  Check out the model in this video – kind of makes us wish someone had done our town.  Oh well, maybe next year.
