Remember when Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupted a few weeks ago, violently spewing ash and debris into European skies? It grounded most flights across the continent for several days. The video below is an aggregation of actual flights (or lack thereof) during that time period. What’s amazing is the volume of flights as atmospheric conditions improved. Considering that each “blip” on the screen is a plane holding hundreds of passengers, the video puts the human impact of the crisis into very real perspective. Be sure to notice the plane that turns around at the 7-second mark. Maybe Boeing should add flights through volcanic ash to their 787 test program.
