Spring is here. After a long and snowy winter, plants are finally blooming as the days get longer and warmer. Each year, over $50 billion dollars is spent in gardening related industries. Of that sum, much is wasted as purchased plants and flowers die after being transplanted into the ground. Often times, the cause of this loss is unknown and not investigated – thus teaching the gardener nothing that could improve future results. While active monitoring of the weather is necessary for growing plants and flowers, other points of data often get overlooked.
It’s the preservation and interpretation of this data that the EasyBloom Plant Sensor enables. Based partly on the same soil analysis technology used on NASA‘s Mars rovers, the “EasyBloom Plant Sensor Plus uses patent-protected sensors to measure sunlight, temperature, soil moisture and fertility.” Upon recording this environmental data for a few days, the user simply plugs the USB portion of the device into a computer for immediate analysis via the company’s website. Plants that are well suited for the particular growing conditions measured are recommended and the health of existing plants can be determined.
The fertilizer monitoring feature requires a $2 monthly subscription, but all other data is gathered and interpreted via free access to the EasyBloom website after purchase. The device itself costs $50, but could save an inexperienced gardener much more – not to mention the lives of otherwise innocent plants and flowers everywhere.
