Maybe you need an AirStash?

AirStashIs storage space on your iPod Touch or iPhone running low?   As these devices consume and generate more media, storage space becomes an increasingly legitimate concern.   That 8GB device that seemed unfillable a few years ago is now likely very close to full, forcing its user to make undesirable compromises about which data is worth saving.  Fortunately, a company called Wearable Inc. has a solution.  Aptly named the AirStash, this bloated USB flash drive-like device boasts an integrated WiFi access point that lets users wirelessly store and retrieve data from its internal SD card.

The concept is pretty simple.  Users determine the amount of storage they need access to by the size of the SD card inserted into the device (up to 32GB).   While data can then be transfered to and from the AirStash via USB, just like any other USB flash drive, the real utility is found while the device is operating sans-PC as a wireless access point.   WiFi enabled devices, such as iPods, iPhones, and iPads, can use a web browser to access the AirStash’s storage via its 802.11b/g WPA2 security enabled connection.

“Unlike a regular flash drive, AirStash shares your files with multiple devices simultaneously. Don’t make everyone huddle around a single computer screen to see the latest family pictures and videos. Now everyone can share and enjoy on their own wireless device. Put AirStash in your briefcase to share files with your business associates without waiting for email. With WPA2 encryption, you can quickly and securely distribute presentations and documents during a meeting.”

Unfortunately, the convenience of the AirStash is also its flaw.  Having to carry yet another device is cumbersome.   But for only $99, it warrants consideration from anyone faced with a storage shortage on their portable WiFi enabled device.  Check out the video below.
