Texas Instruments today announced its WiLink 7.0 chip, thus continuing the miniturization and convergence of mobile devices. The WiLink 7.0 chip, the “industry’s first offering to integrate WLAN 802.11n, GPS, FM transmit/receive, and Bluetooth technologies” is up to half the size of earlier integrated wireless radio solutions. And because it’s a single chip solution, it will cost up to 30% less and increase the energy efficiency of the devices into which it is installed. Texas Instruments will showcase the chip at the upcoming 2010 Mobile World Congress, after which mobile devices containing the technology could appear as early as the end of the year.
