Google Chrome for Mac and Linux is here (and Extensions!)

ChromeI’ve been using Google’s Chrome web browser for about a year now and, unlike my initial impressions of the Chrome OS, love it.  It loads pages faster and uses fewer system resources than IE and Firefox.  Unfortunately, its only stable release is for Windows.

Until today.  Google has finally released versions of the browser for Mac and Linux users.  Although both releases are technically betas, most of the core Chrome functionality, including skins, exists.  The Linux version of Chrome can downloaded here, whereas the Mac version of Chrome can be downloaded here.  I suspect that as more people try Chrome and get to see first-hand how good it is, they’ll soon find themselves, like Sony and many others, switching to it permanently.

Update: In addition to the Mac and Linux releases, Google has also opened up their extension gallery, which allows developers to create add-ons for the Chrome browser.  Currently only available for the Beta releases of the Windows and Linux versions of Chrome, Mac support should be available soon.  There’s already quite a few up there, so check them, and this video about them, out.
