Oh how I wish I had time to sit around entertaining myself via one of the many nifty portable media players currently on the market. But despite my conception that dedicated personal media players are useless given the growing number of smartphones that encompass their feature set, the suits over at Viewsonic obviously feel differently given the company’s announcement today of its VPD400 PMP.
The VPD400 has a 4.3″ 800×480 pixel resolution LCD display and 8GB of internal flash memory – barely enough to hold a couple movies thus making the built in MicroSD card reader imperative. The device supports the usual list of audio and video media formats, including h.264, and can output 720p HD video to an external TV or monitor via its included AV cable. The company cites the device’s simple user interface and 12 hour battery life. With an MSRP of $130, it won’t take much to top the features of the VPD400, especially with the potential rise of mobile TV, but this could make a cool stocking stuffer for the TechClicker in your family.
