The Super Talent[ed] USB 3.0 Thumb Drive

Super Talent USB Pen DriveWell it’s finally happening.  Products supporting the much anticipated (and blazing fast) USB 3.0 standard are slowly trickling out.  And while it’s unfortunate that Intel isn’t integrating support for the standard into its chipsets until 2011, consumers can upgrade their PC motherboard or add a PCI expansion card to take advantage of a few of the new ports.

Today, the memory manufacturer Super Talent announced the industry’s first USB 3.0 flash thumb drive.  Aptly dubbed the RAIDDrive because of its patented RAID-like throughput performance enhancing paired data streams, the device, when used in conjunction with a UAS Protocol driver, can achieve data throughput rates as high as 320MB/s.  The throughput drops to a still impressive 200MB/s when used in USB 3.0 ports without the UAS driver, and there is backward compatibility with all your USB 2.0 ports.

Available in sizes up to 128GB, the drive will be available in December.  Needless to say, one potential use of these will be as high performance bootable pendrives.
