Remember Google Street View, the ultra close up, panoramic imaging effort undertaken by the search giant to add another layer of detail to their Maps product? While the project has already spawned serious privacy concerns (http://www.crunchgear.com/2008/04/08/yet-another-google-maps-street-view-privacy-breach/), it not only continues, but is about to expand beyond just streets. We’re talking trails, paths, parks, zoos…anywhere a crazy, street-vendor looking “trike” can travel. And to promote the it, Google is seeking nominations of interesting locations to which the trike should visit. You can nominate your favorite spot here.
While the Street View effort isn’t much more than a novelty at this point, like Google’s book scanning effort, it represents Google’s commitment to building an information infrastructure upon which future innovations can draw and expand.
