Here’s an interesting idea. Take a 9″ LCD display, slap an iPod dock, SD/MMC reader, and DVD player into it, get it Divx certified, and link it all together via a simple user interface. This is exactly what iLuv did to create its much hyped i1166 PMP.
The device is unique, having been a “Best of Innovations” honoree at the 2009 CES show, because of the way it neatly stows a range of iPod products and DVD player under the screen, making them invisible to the user during operation. The i1166 preserves iPod functionality and control, and will play any media stored on the iPod itself, in addition to compatible multimedia stored on USB flash drives and SD/MMC cards. Dual headphone jacks give two people the opportunity to comfortably share the PMP, and it features a rear picture frame style stand by which it can be propped up for easy viewing.
With an MSRP of $270, iLuv may be asking a bit much for a glorified portable DVD player and iPod dock. But, with the growing amount of visual media iPods tend to carry, the need for a larger screen by which these videos can be played doesn’t seem like a bad idea.
