Big Possibilities, Tiny PC

Remember when computers were the size of rooms.  Me neither.  But I do remember when I got my first tower PC.  It was almost three feet tall and took up most of the space under my desk.  It was hot, used tons of electricity, was filled mostly with empty space, and by today’s standards had about as much computing power as a digital media player.

Fujitsu-ESPRIMO-Q1500-Mini-PCSince then, PC’s have continued to physically shrink into almost laughable form factors at the same time as their processing power and overall functionality grows.  At IFA 2009 in Berlin, Fujitsu unveiled its Q1500 ESPRIMO mini PC.  With the footprint approximately the size of a CD/DVD and height of two inches, you might not expect much from this little guy.  But it packs a respectable Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of RAM, 320GB hard drive, Blu-ray drive (optional), and HDMI adapter into an energy sipping system perfect for home theater or other specialized applications.

Unfortunately for those of us in the U.S., this thing is slated for a European release starting at around $1000.  So what would you use it for?
