Cool or Annoying?

Ok, I’d like to start a new series called “Cool or Annoying” in which you can comment about whether a particular device would serve you well or annoy the hell out of you. The first candidate is the gScreen Corp. Dual Screen Spacebook. Let’s delve, shall we?

GSCREEN LaptopWell, upon first glance this thing looks awesome.  It’s got two 15.4″ LED backlit displays that slide together on top of each other so the laptop can close and still look like….well….a laptop.  That’s almost 30″ of screen.  Other than the screen(s), its a pretty standard high-end laptop, with Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of RAM, selection of NVIDIA graphics cards, and a slew of inputs and outputs.

The obvious advantage to this laptop is the available screen area.  You’d probably never have to minimize anything while working on this thing, effectively redefining the concept of multitasking.  But after its initial five minute honeymoon period, I’d definately start to think twice about using this thing in public.

Having never seen anything like this before, people will stare at you and definately wonder what kind of person needs so much screen.  Even worse, could you imagine sitting on a plane, comfortably settled into your window seat, until the dude in the seat next to you whips this thing out with its two full screens of glory.  Talk about an invasion on space.  It’s with this thought in mind that I have to vote this one as annoying.
