Nokia joins the Netbook race…

Nokia Booklet 3GIt’s clear that netbooks are here to stay.  Although underpowered in terms of processor power compared to most laptops (sorry all you heavy video renderers), netbooks allow users to accomplish the majority of what they seek to do on computers in a small, lightweight, highly portable package.  They’re also relatively cheap, making them popular with the “back to school” crowd.

Today Nokia announced that it has decided to cannonball into the netbook market, which is already drowning in competing companies such as Dell, ASUS, HP, Acer, and Toshiba.  Joining a handful of other netbooks with built in 3G capability, the 2.75lb  Nokia Booklet 3G boasts 12 hour battery life, thanks mostly to its highly efficient Intel Atom processor.  Bundled with Nokia’s Ovi suite of online services, some of which utilize the built in GPS receiver, the Booklet 3G should be a worthy competitor in its heat.  More details, including price, can be expected at the upcoming Nokia World 09 expo.
