When I was a kid, I loved building things. I could turn a pile of Lego’s into anything imaginable. Building with blocks has helped generations of children develop essential problem solving skills, coordination, and creativity. But unfortunately blocks do nothing to prepare today’s kids for the high tech world in which they’ll live. That’s why I was happy to read news about the publication of a computer programming book for kids.
Written by Warren Sande and titled Hello World! Computer Programming for Kids and Other Beginners, the book aims to bring “programming to life with easy-to-follow, hands-on examples”. The book is recommended for kids 8 years and older who possess basic PC skills.
As with blocks, computer programming requires creativity and problem solving, and will engage kids in a highly technical environment. And since it’s easier to learn “languages” at a young age, many kids could find programming easier to understand than adults. Now hopefully they won’t take advantage of us…
