Belkin Gigabit Powerline HD kit’s awesomeness confirmed…

It doesn’t get any easier than powerline networking.  Just plug in both ends to an AC outlet
and you’ve got an instant, reliable, secure network without the cost of stringing CAT5 cables
through your walls.  That’s why I’m always interested in hearing about powerline networking
products, such as this recent release from
Netgear[http://www.techclicker.com/2009/08/netgears-powerline-av-adapter-kit-with-ethernet-swit
ch/] and
now[http://news.prnewswire.com/ViewContent.aspx?ACCT=109&STORY=/www/story/08-20-2009/0005080522
&EDATE=], the Belkin Gigabit Powerline HD starter
kit[http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=495008#].
While this Belkin Gigabit Powerline HD kit has been around for a few months now, its recent
“Editor’s Choice” award[http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2350631,00.asp] from
PCMag[http://www.pcmag.com], highlights just how good this device may be.  Touted as the
“fastest powerline device we have ever tested”, PCMag highlights the Gigle GGL541 chip that
makes the device possible.  Although labeled a gigabit device, PCMag reveals real world test
speeds of about half that, which is actually pretty amazing considering most HomePlug AV
certified devices are rated[link to another device spec] to 200Mbps.  It may very well be time
to start preparing your existing copper for double duty.
